When you want to convert your loft area there are a few elements that you can add. Let’s take a look at them and what they require.
Some of the elements that you can use to convert your loft area include walls, doors and floor beams. Walls will help support your new room as well as the existing roof. This will likely be low-level wall. You may need peace force to be fire resistant. You can also add additional walls that are load-bearing to other areas of the loft.
In most cases you will need to install additional floor joists support the weight. They will probably be larger than existing ones. You can also install additional support like wood or steel beams. They can help with support also provide fire resistance.
It is a requirement to install sound insulation between habitable rooms. If you have a semi-detached house. You may be required to install sound insulation between your loft and your neighbours. In some cases, they may request a test to be performed. However, this will largely depend on your neighbours and whether they allow this. With any upgrade all converging, remember to keep fire safety in mind. In most cases you will need to install additional fire protection to parts of the house. This can be elements like fire resisting doors and in some cases also partitions in the stairway.
